A small sample of the kind of work our therapists do

“A little 5 yr old boy with leukaemia was warded with us for 3 months after having a bone marrow transplant.  This child who was accustomed to being an active boy, was so frustrated, that he spent a lot of his time screaming and throwing uncontrollable tantrums.  His mother would bring in textbooks, toys, movies and colouring pencils but he soon got bored with them and resumed his frustrated behaviour.  Very little could be done to entertain or calm him down.  His mother was distressed, miserable and feeling helpless.

I requested for ANGSANAcare’s music therapist to meet this boy.  With a lot of work and patience, she was able to get the child to enjoy playing drums, singing songs and be a happy child again.  The parents and the child found it very therapeutic to participate in these music sessions.”

Happy Birthday to a young man in University Hospital!

Yesterday, on the 9th of April 2015, ANGSANAcare threw a birthday party for a 14 year old leukaemia patient in University Hospital, Malaysia.  This child's mother passed on when he was 3 yrs old and he and his father live together with no other family or friends in their lives.  This child's prognosis is not good.  The 3 chemotherapy sessions he has had have not produced the results expected.

The cheerful boy specifically requested a Minion cake, jelly, strawberry ice cream, ribena drinks and beef stew.  ANGSANAcare went all out and brought him 3 birthday presents, party hats, songs, food for the whole ward and good cheer!  The food and drink was consumed by the entire ward and their families with enthusiasm.  The young patient insisted on sharing everything he had.

We came away very satisfied as we were able to see the child's eyes light up and the joy in many of the children.

Happy Birthday again, young man!!
